Description

Harrar is known as one of the main coffee-growing regions in Ethiopia’s Eastern Highlands, and it produces a very distinctive wild-varietal Arabica. As the name implies, this coffee brings the sought-after flavors of blueberry, and it’s naturally processed in order to bring out the most complimenting flavor possible. There’s a unique and subtle “peppering” that occurs during processing––the color of the beans disperses. The Longberry’s name refers to the Ethiopian grading term used to describe the largest beans, so there isn’t any abnormality in the actual length.

Its namesake, the walled city of Harrar has a population of 200,000, and is part of a key trade route. Harrar is not only the eastern-most growing region in the whole country, but it’s also a remarkable coffee with a deeper, less fruity taste than our Misty Valley bean.

Cupping Notes:Smooth, full body with a winey, sweet, and bright acidity and fruity notes of blueberry.

The best Ethiopian coffee I have had. Really good full flavor and a smooth and creamy mouth feel. Fruity after taste increases as it cools but does not overpower the great taste of this coffee. Like a fine wine it gets better as you drink it.

Good stuff! This has been first coffee roasting adventure and I just gave them a light roast in a cast iron dutch oven on the stove and I couldn't be happier. I've ordered this bean from coffee roasters before and knew it was one of my favorites so I couldn't be happier that I'm able to get that deep dark flavor and aroma just screwing around on the stove. Chocolatey, currant berries, maybe a hint of citrus for the lighter roast.

Love the coffee beans. Coffee bean Corral made the order right when UPS stole my 10 pound bag of coffee beans and substituted 10 pounds worth of isopropyl 70% rubbing alcohol bottles. You can't make this stuff up. Thank for being a great company with excellent integrity and you have the customers back!!

I read these reviews which say they taste chocolate or blueberry or caramel. My palate is not so sophisticated. What I do know is that with my single bean blend of roast times, My morning CUPPA tastes like what I think coffee should taste like. An ancestor of mine in the 1800s who served both the union and the confederate navies wrote in a book that mornings start with a cup of coffee and a cigar. I no longer smoke but my day starts with a coffee. I often wonder how his coffee was and from where it came. I imagine he drank his as black as mine and only the sweetness of the natural bean. What was the coffee of 1840? Back to the review, I give 5 stars because I can't register six! Here is to 60% City roast and 40% City +. As my mug says, "I drink coffee for your protection!"

Interesting flavor profile for sure. Roasted to about City +, very nice mouthfeel, rich and balanced. I taste some chocolate, with some blueberry on the back end, that stays with you for a minute or too. Nothing overpowering, very pleasant. I tend to like this over some of the other Yirgs that lean toward the strawberry side. As in many things, ratings are very subjective. You either like it or not so much. But even if a particular bean is not your favorite, that doesn't take away from the fact that it is a fresh, quality bean. Seems like every bean I've tried from CBC is fits that bill.

I have been roasting now for about 2 years, with a Behmor 1600. I usually don't write reviews, but in this case I thought it was prudent, this coffee I found extremely dirty with chaff in cool down mode and it roast's very fast between first and second crack almost inseparable, thus it is easy to over-roast, other than that it is a good cup of coffee. Just thought I'd let fellow roasters know.

One taste of this and we went back and ordered 5#. We roast our coffee on the lighter, brighter side, after years of shiny, ham-fisted, over-roasted coffee. This has all the great smell, complex personality traits and that woodsy-woody earthy taste that is very hard to come by! YAY!

Toast to just after second crack. Offers a nice aroma and earthy, fruity flavor with wine undertones.

African coffee is always my truest preference. Although, the flavors in all African coffees are intense, Ethiopian Longberry Deep Blue Harrar does not fail to meet its bold expectations. Personally, I drink my coffee black, no sugar or cream. The flavor of this coffee is about the same of drinking pure cherry tart juice or cranberry, not everyone can tolerate these coffees. I have to say that the coffee is subtle as a stone when I drink it, unlike Latin American coffees that tend to be a little more lighter and uplifting. I have to say that it is not so much the flavor of these coffees that keep me drinking them, but it is that they are raw.

I reread my last posted review and can only say... I got a new roaster, wore out the last one, I roast 60% for 6 minutes and 40% for 8 minutes. I roast 630 grams every Saturday morning for my weeks brewing. Quoting from my previous review " It is what I think coffee should taste like. Better than any Columbian bean (IMHO). Harar, hurrah!" I kicked the Starbucks habit and could not be happier in my breakfast drink of choice!

Roasted this as both a lighter roast (just after first crack) and darker (beginning of second crack) and was disappointed by the flavor. It seems rather bitter with no actual unique characteristics. I wouldn't recommend.
